On August 11, online shopping major "Rakuten" announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2021. Sales increased 16.9% from the same period of the previous year to 793,671 million yen, and Non-GAAP operating loss was 91,124 million yen. One of the reasons for the decline in profits is the impact of prior investment such as the installation of own company's base stations for mobile. In the domestic online shopping business, which is their main service, total distribution amount increased 12.2% from the same period of the previous year to 1.2 trillion yen, and continues to grow steadily. In addition, with the expansion of "nest consumption at home" in the era of COVID-19, the number of users in each online shopping service such as the Internet shopping mall "Rakuten Ichiba" continued to increase, and sales growth is also progressing steadily. Among them, the number of users increased by 75.7% from the same period of the previous year in the Internet travel reservation service "Rakuten Travel," due to efforts for safe and secure travel, transaction volume also increased, though which had been greatly influenced by the government's request to refrain from going out due to the pandemic situation.
