Amazon growing rapidly will probably overtake Tesco to be ranked 1st in the UK retail industry by 2025

According to a new report released by US EC analysis company "Edge by Ascential", it is expected that US online shopping major "Amazon" will overtake a British retail major "Tesco" within 4 years until 2025 to become the UK's top retailer. Tesco's 2020 sales (64 billion pounds, about 9.92 trillion yen) were about twice that of Amazon (36.3 billion pounds, about 5.62 trillion yen). However, it is predicted that by 2025, sales of Amazon will reach 77.1 billion pounds (about 11.9 trillion yen), and it will exceed that of Tesco's 76.1 billion pounds (about 11.8 trillion yen). Over the past year, Amazon has launched 3 "Amazon Fresh shop" in London, drawing people's attention for its rapid growth in the UK online retail market. It has been pointed out that the company's competitiveness is still small in the fresh food category, where needs are increasing due to the influence of the COVID-19. However, overall, Amazon's share will continue to grow, and will account for up to 1/3 of the retail chain market in British retail by 2025.
