Amazon has acquired a long-established movie production company MGM

On May 26, the US online shopping major "Amazon" announced that it has agreed to acquire also US's movie production company "Metro-Goldwyn Mayer (MGM)". The total amount was 8.45 billion dollars (about 920 billion yen), which was the largest transaction amount since the acquisition of the grocery chain "Whole Foods Market" at 13.7 billion dollars (about 1.5 trillion yen) in 2017. Amazon, which develops the music and video distribution platform "Amazon Prime Video," has invested a large amount of money in the media industry and content production in recent years. According to major financial media, Bloomberg, this acquisition will get MGM to provide a lot of content with Amazon's video distribution service, which is expected to have the effect of preventing the leaving of "prime members" who are service users of Amazon.

Indian conglomerate Tata acquired online grocery shopping bigbasket

On May 28, "Tata Digital", a subsidiary of India's largest conglomerate, "Tata Group", announced that it acquired "bigbasket", an online shopping store for food and miscellaneous goods in India. The acquisition price is not unveiled, however local media in India reports that it will be 95 billion rupees (about 140 billion yen). According to the Competition Commission of India, the company has acquired the corporate B to B company "Super Grocery Suppliers" operated by bigbasket, and has also acquired the consumer B to C Company "Innovative Retail Concepts". The purpose of the acquisition is "to accelerate the introduction of grocery utilizing EC shopping into the Tata Digital in the COVID-19 era."

DMWF Asia - Circumstances of Digital Marketing in Asian Countries in the COVID-19 Pandemic

A virtual conference of DMWF Asia (Digital Marketing World Forum Asia) was held on December 2. DMWF has been introducing trends related to topics such as digital marketing technology, VR, artificial intelligence, influencer marketing, UX, CX, e-commerce, content marketing, data analytics, mobile, and practical examples targeting the global digital marketing community for over 12 years. A Virtual conference on a continental basis was held in 2020 under the influence of the spread of COVID-19. At the Asian event, which we participated in this time, 25 people appeared on the stage. They were corporate sales representatives of main platformers and digital marketing managers of user companies. As the main theme, trends in live commerce, cross-border sales, and data-driven marketing in the COVID-19 pandemic were introduced. Particularly, we would like to introduce some examples of data-driven marketing, and social commerce that is becoming active. The importance of these have been pointed out in many sessions.
